Late-night rambling

Hi, guys. I'm working on an essay that's due at midnight, so I decided to write to you guys! Today has been excruciatingly busy and crazy, and tomorrow will probably be worse. Another interesting thing is that tomorrow, the high is supposed to be 48. I'm going to die. I may have to get my birthday jacket out a week early. Is that all right with you guys?? Well, other than that, everything's hunky-dory. Today for dinner I made fritters from the recipe Sister Haines gave me - how is she, by the way? I had peaches and strawberries in milk for a wonderful breakfast, and a cucumber sandwich for lunch -my favorite. I just wanted to tell you about my menu because today it was really good - probably the best thing about my day. :) I really want to hear more from you. I don't even know what happened with the Tokay games Monday!!! Tell Natalie and Skyler Towle that they need to keep their promise and alert me on facebook about how every single game went. Well, after that random stream-of-consciousness rambling, I'm going to finish my essay. (Hopefully that won't be rambling too, but we'll see...) I love you guys! Good night!

Eliza

  1. Yes, the clock is off again. I wrote this at 10:40 my time, 9:40 your time.

  2. Good to hear of your fine menu! Frosh Soph boys and girls both had good games. . .but lost. Marta's team was much improved and Marta had some amazing moves. Luke's team was very competitive til the very end, when there was a last-minute Tokay goal to win. We didn't stay for varsity, but apparently the girls lost badly. The boys won. Luke played well--he's always back on defense, and he practically pushed a guy out the back end of the pool playing defense on him, by the way. Both Luke and Marta need to get confident shooting.

  3. Eliza,

I have a question. Is there a way to print the contents of a BLOG? I think this would make a great journal but I don't know if you can retrieve the data in a store-able form (is that a word??).
Anyway if you wanted to know how my day went, it started at 3:00 this morning when I got up to make the drive to Manteca to meet with my solid waste drivers. They weren't a very happy crowd. I didn't have good news for them, giving them a choice to either take a 10% pay cut or to have part of their crew laid off. After that meeting I went back to the office for a bit of email, then I was back out for a 7:00 meeting with the water crew. Same story, more grumbling. Then 7:45 with the street and vehicle maintenance crew. Then 8:15 over to the wastewater treatment plant to spread another 45 minutes of good cheer. By the end of that I was bushed and not real happy about the whole situation. So back to the office, then off to a meeting with a contractor to resolve a three month old dispute. Back in the office at 10:50 to find that the City manager was sending a letter to the paper without my comments. Not good. Then went over to his office to explain situation, but never got to meet with him. Spent the next hour trying to scrub up 100 grand so I could award a construction contract. Had a quick lunch with a staffer from the COG, and then back beating the bush to get the money. Then at 2:00 rejoin a 1:00 meeting to resolve plans to spend 1.3 million on landscaping the 99/120 interchange. That ended at 3:30. Several phone calls, impromptu meetings later, I finally left the office at 4:30 and headed home. Tried to keep my eyes open all the way. Met mom at Soulsbyville and Chatted briefly while we watched Levi's soccer practice. Afterward, she took Levi to Scouts while I talked with an old friend. Then Came home at 7:15 to spend time with Tess. Lights are off and no one home. I put away the chickens, eat too much left over cold gross pizza, read the paper, and wandering what happened to my daughter. Last look through house discovers Tess curled up in front of TV watching Old Yellar. She doesn't say boo to me, so I came down to say hi to you. Marta and Luke at Band Practice tonight. 7:45 Mom arrives home with Levi. That's my life. Hope you enjoyed the brief summary. Now I think I'm going to bed to get some sleep so I have energy to start the day again tomorrow (after this Pizza digests...)
Be good and Do your best. You are the pride of the family.

    Love

  4. Dad, I love you!! I'm sorry you had a yucky day. Telling people that they have to take a pay cut cannot be pleasant. I'll give you a brief synopsis of my day: up at 6:15, had to treat a low so I didn't get out the door for half an hour, then to the pool, to weight training, and back up the hill to the apartment. I took a shower and got ready for class, then left in time to step in the classroom about three seconds before the bell rang. I went to all of my classes (BOM, Calc, Rhetoric, and Politics) and then went to the library to study. Studied for my History of Philosophy test for three hours, did a math assignment in between, and then headed over to the testing center, taking just a moment to eat a granola bar. My test took two-and-a-half hours, and then I walked home in the cold talking to you and mom. Good end to a long, hard day. My day can't compare to yours though - I'm sorry you had to deal with so many stinky financial problems and the fallout from them. I'm glad you got to talk with an old friend, though - which one was it?? Oh, and I think that writing on my blog is an excellent response to not finding Tess. It made me happy. Anyway, I have homework to do and I have to get some peaches frozen before bedtime, so I will talk to you later. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

    Love you tons,
    Eliza
